The event
At sunrise the sun’s rays reach the inner sanctuary of the Great Temple of Ramses II and light the statues of Ramses II, Amun-Re and Re-Horakhty, leaving Ptah in shadow. Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities gives the dates as 22 October and 22 February each year.
